Module 4 - Contributing to Requirements Documentation

Step 1 of 8

Module Foundation

I.

MODULE PURPOSE

  • A.This module builds an understanding of the requirement framework and how it differs from related terms an OFA will hear constantly, like a request or a proposed solution.
  • B.It builds an understanding of why precision matters, since an imprecise requirement can be built, tested, and signed off on and still fail to deliver what the stakeholder needed.
  • C.It builds an understanding of how to move from a stakeholder's words to a documented requirement without distorting the original meaning, so the written record can be trusted by people who were not in the room.
II.

MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • A.The learner can distinguish a requirement from a request or a solution, correctly identifying which of the three is actually being discussed in a given conversation.
  • B.The learner can elicit basic requirements through structured questions, rather than simply recording whatever a stakeholder happens to say first.
  • C.The learner can document requirements clearly enough that someone who was not in the room can act on them, without needing to ask what was actually meant.
